Like a coin, Cinema has two sides – one art and another entertainment. Some movies are made purely for entertainment, action-romance-comedy-glamour-music all mixed in two to three hours to glue the audience to their seat. People watch it, laugh & cry and go home and forget about it. While some makers are trying to trode the path untrodden, making a biopic like ‘Acharya’ based upon life story of ‘Bhajan King’ Bhakta Raj Acharya is one such daring step producer Roshan Rai had taken. Produced under Silk Route Banner, ‘Acharya’ has been directed by Prashant Rasai with Satya Raj Acharya (Bhakta Raj Acharya‘s elder son) playing the role of Bhakta Raj Acharya.
Last Wednesday, when the movie was premiered on QFX, Civil Mall, Bhakta Raj Acharya couldn’t stop tears while watch his own life story unfolding from childhood till now portrayed by his own son. Both father-son duo sat together to watch the premiere of the Acharya and were praised by the audience.
Bhakta Raj, an ailing patient, thanked the director for transforming his real life into reel life. He said, the movie is as close as it can get to my actual life story, with more than 90% accuracy. He was also heartened to see, how good his own son Satya Raj had portrayed his life on screen.

The movie released last Friday on major centers of Nepal. The movie also stars Ghazal Maestro, Ghulam Ali Shaab along with Aruna Karki, Sunil Pokharel, Saugat Malla, Arun Regmi in supporting roles.
So, if you think Nepali cinema is all about village story or item girls shaking their booty, then you must watch Acharya to see the evolution. It’s we the audience, who have to discern good cinema from whole batch of Rekha Thapa, Rajesh Hamal masala brands (no offence to the actors and their fans), in order to encourage more and more makers to make good Cinema.
