When Rajesh Hamal & Sumina came to the premier of Dulahi like a real-life newly wed couple, audience were stunned. Later it was found out it was nothing but another gimmick to attract press and fans to promote absolutely hallow cinema titled – Dulahi.
Sorry for the strong words but after wasting your money and time on the premiere you don’t expect to spend more to alleviate the headache you get by watching a mediocre movie with baseless script and blatant screenplay.
Dulahi in a single word is Pathetic Period.
Cinema based upon film industry, relationship between a star and fan has been depicted movies like Guddi (Indian) and Preeti Ko Phool (Nepali). Dulahi treads the same path. How a normal girl becomes a die hard fan of some star and loses everything for the star has been depicted in the movie. Scripted and directed by Baburam Dhakal; Dulahi stars Rajesh Hamal, Sumina, Mukesh Dhakal in the lead roles. Rajesh for the first time plays as himself – Superstar Rajesh Hamal. Despite being bachelor at the age of 49 in real life, Mr. Hamal gets married in the reel life.
Aarti (Sumina) is depicted as well educated small town girl, who had never watched Rajesh Hamal movie, while whole town goes ga-ga upon Rajesh. The town is filled up with Rajesh’s fan, onc of them is Aarti’s dear friend Milan (Mukesh Dahal), who are busy imitating the superstar styles, attire, accent, dailouge, etc. One day Milan takes Aarti to Rajesh’s movie and from that day on she is completely awed by the superstar. It’s like love at first sight for her. We all know love is blind, so she blindly follows the superstar. She tries to get in touch with him and coincidently bumps into her prince in charming superstar in her own town. Rajesh had come for a movie shoot in Aarti’s town. Despite Aarti’s parent’s rejection, Aarti manages to meet with the Superstar. The secret meetings in the dark night bring fan and the superstar more and closer. One day it is discovered that Aarti is pregnant and is carrying superstar’s baby.
After series of trails and tribulations, the superstar finally accepts small town girl Aarti and makes her his Bride – The Dulahi.
With nothing new to offer in the story department, the movie further falters in the screenplay zone with too many bloopers. Like how come Aarti who owns DVD Player and TV never heard of the superstar Rajesh Hamal. Despite being educated she don’t know what an alcohol does to one. Just after the love making scene, in the next scene showing the actress pregnant doesn’t make any sense. Did the editor run too much scissors?
What’s more absurd is until the baby delivery day Aarti’s parents never suspect of Aarti’s pregnancy, while living in the same house. There are many more illogical subplots in the movie, which never helps the story to move forward.
Cinematography of the movie does show some promising work, but same cannot be said of choreography, music or action direction. Overall the movie looks like its being made just to cash in stardom of Rajesh Hamal by attracting his loyal fans.
