Recently, many online media were speculating a under production movie tentatively titled – Gautam Buddha is being made at the whopping cost of 80 Million. According to filmykhabar, the movie is an animation movie and is being directed by Veteran Tulsi Ghimire.
Well, so far in Nepali CineSansar we haven’t heard any moive that cost more than 9 Million yet considering the technical biggies like Kagbeni, Sano Sansar, MESC or even olden most expensive dud ‘Ranko‘. Even Rekha Thapa’s action-romance movies are made under 5 Million budget.
Considering the growing Nepali Cinema market, few overseas premiere locales like USA, UK, Australia, today producers will not hesitate to cross the boundary line of 10 Million, but 80 Million is awful lot of money for anyone to invest in Nepali Cinema Industry. The maximum return of recent blockbusters like MESC, First Love, Kaha Bhetiyala, Himmat, Hifajaat, Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu were not more than 25-30 Million. Then why would any producer invest, if he/she is sure of loss.
According to the reports, the movie will finally clear the air upon recent Indian propaganda upon birth place of Buddha. The movie also aims to once again reinstate Nepal, as land of peace, the status which was lost after decade long internal conflict between Maoist and Government. Ghimire concluded by saying; “the movie will not make our country popular in international arena, but also will make us proud as we belong to country where Gautam Buddha was born.”
We always expect such noble work from the Veterans but promoting a movie highlighting beyond an imagination budget of 80 Million is something very hard to digest by Nepali Cinelovers !
