sanchita samjhanaValentine fever doesn’t seem to end for Nepali Cine Sansar this February. After last week’s ‘Sapana Ko Naulo Sansar’, yet another romantic tragedy movie hits the screen this week with Samjhana. Starring action star Nikhil along with drama queen Sanchita in major roles, Samjhana tells a story about lost love due to lack of expression. Nikhil plays an introvert, regressive character who cannot express his love to Sanchit and finally had to keep mum forever after he loses her to someone else.

The movie highlights the popular belief that love doesn’t always mean to posses or receive, lost love can also exist in ones memory and heart forever. The movie also raises issue of same sex people, who despite having some medical disorder are after all human beings who yearn for love, respect and friendship.

The story begins in a village where Shyama (Sanchita) lives, bubbly care free girl in a rural Nepal. Arjun (Nikhil) also lives in the same village and is secretly in love with Shyama, but could never express his love to her. One day, Rahul arrives in the Village accidentally, who had forgotten his past due to major injury. Shayma falls for Rahul and love blossoms between them, leaving Arjun helpless. One day, Rahul suddenly remembers his past and that he has a girl friend already in the city. So he leaves pregnant Shayma and goes to city.

Poor and panic stricken Shyama is rescused by Arjun from the villagers, who wants her out of the village. Arjun comes to city in search of Rahul and there everything gets revealed. While Shyama also learns Arjun had secretly loved her since childhood. But it was already late, Shyama gets already killed and his love for Shyama is now left only in memories (Samjhana).

The movie mainly revolves around love between Shyama-Arjun and Shyama-Rahul. Music does help to give extra impact in the sentimental love story. While action sequences does provide thrill and help to movie story forward. The movie though follows same masala kind of movie category, where more of dialogues are used to express even emotions rather than expressions.

Performance wise, Nikhil does need to learn to underplay in such sentimental underdog roles. While Sanchita does her role with ease. The introduction of third sex character as Arjun’s friend is not that well justified. Supporting cast Raj Ballav and Garima Pant though needs to polish their acting skills more in order to sustain in this industry.

Produced by Pragya Joshi, the movie’s good musical score was given by Mahesh Khadka, while lyrics were penned by Rajendra Thapa. For anyone who yearns for masala romantic movie with romance, action, songs and some melodrama Samjhana would be near to perfect movie. The movie released on 26th Feb, 2010 in 37 major theaters in Kathmandu including Guna, Gopi Krishna,Bishwojyoti, Barahi and Ganga.
