Veteran Woes

Exclusive | | January 28, 2010 at 7:19 am

bhuvanVeteran actors, who have spent more than three decades in the Nepali film industry are still ruling the industry. New actors are finding very difficulty to make their presence felt within the movies led by these veterans. For e.g. Bhuvan K.C is still leading the industry with one or two releases a year, which gets him awards [see KTV Film Awards 2066 ] as well as good box office collection. Same can be said for Rajesh Hamal, Shiva Shrestha, etc.
But things seems to be changing recently, these days makers are choosing this generation actors instead of Old School boys for new kind of movies.

shivaShovit Basnet signed Shiva Shretha, initially as an actor, but later decided to turn him into villain in his forthcoming movie Raaz. Shiva, on the other hand had no choice, apart from accepting the role of negative character at this age.

Bhuvan K.C. despite getting thunderous response for his movie Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu last year says none of the interesting projects have come to his lap this year. Currently, he is surrounded with his own family woes, two marriages and exactly two divorces, has left him bit awed at this age. Upon asking about Third one. He simply smiled and said; No,Tesari Kasam, Raja.

Rajesh Hamal on the other hand, though in demand has been slowly been getting kind of guest appearance in the movies. He is also known as ‘Poster Actor’ these days in the industry. However minuscule might be his role in the movie, but his blow up is printed in the movie poster to attract his fans to the theater.

It would be more relevant for veterans to now switch to character roles, instead of demanding pivotal roles in the cinema. Unless, they switch to supporting roles, new generation actors will always have to struggle for the screen space along with them. They will never be able to show their talent, as they will always be eclipsed by the Veterans and their fan following.
