Kiss Bug in Nepali Cinema !

50 years old Rajesh Hamal and 25 years Mandita K.C. lip locked in ‘The Yug Dekhi Yug Samma’ and entertainment media has been going ga-ga over it for months. Rajesh Hamal had started his career with old ‘Yug Dekhi Yug Samma’ nearly two decades ago. Within 20 years span, he had acted in more than 200 movies and ‘The Yug Dekhi Yug Saama’ is the first movie he lip-locked with half his age girl Nandita K.C. The scene created a hustle and bustle in the industry. Numerous other movies started adding (un)wanted kiss scenes after ‘The Yug Dekhi Yug Samma’.

In Hollywood kiss scenes are taken normally, even in Bollywood most movies have kiss scenes these days. In recent movie ‘Kambakht Ishq’ kareena lip locked with Akshay Kumar and her current boy friend Saif had no problem with that. She also lip locked again with Aamir in recently released ’3 Idiots’. Expression of love is rapidly changing thesedays and its getting more and more physical.

Talking about Nepali cinema, one of the starter of Kiss scenes on screen would be Karishma Manandhar. She had short kiss scene in Kasturi (with Ajay Shekhar), Mankamana (with Shiva Shrestha) but almost all were done through camera trick. But in recent years, Nepali actor and actress have started giving kiss scene without any inhibitions. Director’s claim the story demands at least one or two intimate scene in a movie. Which finally, becomes the USP of the movie.

Recent filmmakers like Shovit Basnet had included a kiss scene in hit movie Dhoom. So, did scriptwriter cum actress Arunima Lamsal, who promoted her movie – Dipshikha with her own kiss scene. Rekha Thapa is another actess who believes in giving bold and daring scenes if audience loves. Arunima Lamsal’s forthcoming movie ‘Afno Manche Afnai Huncha’ is claimed to have a minute long kiss.

Kiss can be depicted asthetically as an expression of love, but film makers in Nepal is using it as a marketing tool. Like bollywood movies, without a reason Hero and Heroine starts bursting into songs and soon after into intimate sequences including a KISS.
